Total Body Dexterity Tester
(US Patent #5,211,562)
The Total Body Dexterity Tester (TBDT) is a manual dexterity test that may be administered at a variety of heights. This allows clinicians to evaluate a worker’s tolerance in sustained postures such as forward reaching, stooping, overhead reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
While performing this unique work sample, the person’s hand and wrist undergo a complete functional range of motion.
Manipulation in awkward postures is common in maintenance or repetitive assembly tasks.
Innovation at Work
The Total-Body Dexterity Tester was invented and patented by Rick Wickstrom, PT, DPT, CPE, CDMS to measure manual dexterity in different work postures during WorkAbility Fitness Screens and Functional Capacity Evaluations. In 2008, the TBDT was re-engineered to support the delivery of mobile assessments at work-site or clinic locations. The TBDT includes a hanger to secure it to the top of a door for assessing work tolerance in an overhead reach posture.
The Total Body Dexterity Tester is a MUST for any therapy provider that sees workers with cumulative trauma disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome!
